Clydeside Television Productions has its roots in the Red Road having been first formed there in 1986.

Our founder and proprietor Matt Quinn was brought up inthe scheme. and It had always been our intention to celebrate the place that gave us our first home, where our roots lie. Tragic events of the past few days make that all the more pressing now.

Skyscraper We'ans is a programme in development by Clydeside TV that hopes to set the balance straight on life in the Red Road. We're looking to tell the positive stories of living life and growing up in the tallest dwellings in Europe...

March the Eleventh Twenty-Ten... Tuesday...

On Sunday past a tragedy happened at the place where this company had its birth.

A desperate Russian man, his Wife and their Son tied themselves together with rope. They tied that Rope to what is thought to be an old wardrobe. And launched it and themselves from the 15th floor balcony of their temporary home at Red Road....

A tragedy by any measure. For the man and his family. For the concierge who found them. For the neighbour who opened her living-room blinds one Sunday morning to meet that horrible scene....

And a tragedy for the scheme itself. Once the highest dwellings in Europe Red Road stood for hope, for modernity for progress...

Today it stands a doomed ghetto. Set to be demolished, its near half-century dominance of the North Glasgow skyline is set to end soon. And end it must with this spectacularly sad entry in the history books...

Petershill Road and Sighthill: looking towards the centre of Glasgow from the original Clydeside TV offices at Red Road circa 1987...

The truth about the Red Road is that it's a place where many decent hard-working people raised their families and raised them well. And that many Skyscraper We'ans grew up to find great success in life... The Red Road produced Policemen, Builders, Teachers, Politicians, Sportsmen, Entrepreneurs, Electricians, Nurses...

Clydeside TV needs YOUR help! We want to hear your story, your experience. And unlike some of the projects currently running to mark the end of the Red Road we'll do our level best to tell your story to the world; not to bury it!

We need your old photographs too as well as cine film, old videos or what have you... Don't worry; we'll scan and digitise what we need and return the originals to you; email us first though!

Skyscraper We'ans is a positive film and we are after tales of success and positive experiences rather than the usual tales of woe and misery that we hear about life in the flats.

What we can't include in the final film we'll try to publish online and compile an honest and hopefully valued resource that pays tribute to these once symbols of hope and modernity.

To date Skyscraper We'ans is a completely independent project that is receiving no funding no grants and is not financially supported by anyone other than its producers and those volunteering their time, energy and goodwill to get the job done. The programme's being made simply because we feel there's a story that needs to be told; it's a labour of love in that respect.

Whilst we'd welcome help from 'the system' in the form of financial or practical support that has to come on the basis of us being free to tell the story as we see it. Why? Well; where there's a scheme there's a schemer! And those of us who lived and grew up in the schemes know only too well how history is often re-written to suit an agenda that has absolutely hee-haw to do with the folk who were most affected by it.

It's a controversial thing to say, but it seems to us that a determined effort was made to paint the Red Road black! And our first aim here is to create a people's record that really is unhindered by political agenda or spin. The story OF the skyscraper we'ans of the Red Road told BY a skyscraper we'an from the Red Road!

Skyscraper We'ans is being produced and directed by Matt Quinn of Clydeside TV Productions, you can contact him about any aspect of the project by emailing...
